Vitamins A, D, B6, B12 and C and the minerals iron, selenium, zinc and copper are important for the normal functioning of the immune system. Tiredness and exhaustion are reduced by water-soluble vitamins B2, B3, B5, B6, B12 and C, and magnesium and iron. Important components in energy exchange are B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B12 and biotin, as well as phosphorus, iodine, calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron and copper.
At the cellular level, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, manganese, selenium, copper, vitamins A, D, E, B2, B6, B12 and C play different roles. Biotin, chromium, zinc, molybdenum, zinc, B2, B6, B12 and A are important in different metabolisms.
Iodine, magnesium, copper, biotin, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12 and C support the normal functioning of the nervous system. Vitamin B5 contributes to mental performance and iodine, iron and zinc contribute to normal cognitive function. Vision is supported by zinc and vitamins A and B2, and muscles by calcium, magnesium and vitamin D. Biotin, selenium, copper, zinc, iodine, B2 and A are important for hair, nails and skin. Bones and teeth are kept normal by phosphorus, calcium, magnesium and vitamin D. The normal functioning of blood vessels, bones, cartilage, gums, skin and teeth requires the formation of collagen. Calcium and vitamin K are important in blood clotting, while iron plays a role in the formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin and in the transport of oxygen. Chromium helps keeping blood glucose levels normal. Vitamin C helps with the absorption of iron and vitamin D with calcium and phosphorus.
In addition to the production of thyroid hormones, iodine is also needed along with selenium in thyroid function. Zinc is necessary for fertility and for maintaining testosterone levels. Selenium is important for men to produce sperm.
