Iron supports the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin and the transport of oxygen in the body. Iron also helps reduce fatigue and exhaustion.<\/p>\n<p>Iron is present in the body in bound or free form. Iron is only good for the body in a carefully bound form. In contrast, free form iron acts as a strong prooxidant and is oxidized to toxic compounds that are sparingly soluble in the body.<\/p>\n<p>The recommended daily amount of iron depends on age, physical activity and physiological condition. It is usually in the range of 10 to 15 mg.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-99f7224 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"99f7224\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Who should consume iron?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-86ce537 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"86ce537\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n<p>In general, iron deficiency does not occur in people who consume mixed foods, as iron is found in many foods. The largest sources are liver, eggs and red meat. From plant-based foods beans, parsley, raisins and lentils. Iron deficiency can be caused by an unbalanced diet, veganism, decreased absorption, prolonged bleeding and uncompensated needs (e.g., in pregnant women).<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of iron deficiency are usually pale skin, tiredness, dizziness and irritability, but nail brittleness and spoon-shaped fingernails may also occur.<\/p>\n<p>It is worth remembering that iron supplements should definitely not be used arbitrarily. If iron deficiency is suspected, you should always consult a doctor, who will determine the amount of iron in your blood by doing blood tests. Good absorption of organic forms is the basis for better bioavailability (indicating how much of the substance enters the bloodstream) and lower intensity of side effects (Figure 1). One form of iron may work very well for one person, while causing unpleasant side effects to another. Therefore, you should consult a doctor and a pharmacist, who will help you find the most suitable preparation. What affects the absorption of iron?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0448269 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0448269\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n<p>Iron is usually taken orally, either daily or every other day. The correct frequency of taking will be determined by your doctor or pharmacist, depending on the dose of iron required, the rate of absorption and the side effects.<\/p>\n<p>Organic salt forms are four times better absorbed than inorganic ones (Figure 2), ensuring good bioavailability and a lower side effect profile.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5b5912d elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"5b5912d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n<figure class=\"wp-caption\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-medium_large size-medium_large wp-image-5115\" src=\"https:\/\/old.nutridream.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Figure2.gif\" sizes=\"(max-width: 502px) 100vw, 502px\" alt=\"\" width=\"502\" height=\"539\" \/><figcaption class=\"widget-image-caption wp-caption-text\">Figure 2. Factors that promote and inhibit iron uptake should also be considered when administering the product. Vitamin C, which is often added as a second component in iron preparations, contributes to the absorption of iron. However, it is worth remembering that very high doses of ascorbic acid may promote the release of iron from the carrier, resulting in iron excess. Ferrochel \u2122 is in the form of a chelate in which iron is linked to two amino acids, resulting in the formation of iron diglycinate (Figure 3).
